Zimbabwe’s award-winning fashion label Tocar, based in Victoria Falls and helmed by creative designer Brightman Dlamini, has been making waves on social media with its latest design collaboration featuring reigning Mister Southern Africa International, Future Nyoni.
The buzz centres around a stunning Isiagu-inspired ensemble, designed by Dlamini for Nyoni and his family. The outfit draws from Nigeria’s rich Edo cultural heritage, blending traditional elegance with contemporary flair.
The standout design features a bold red and white colour scheme, symbolic of Edo State’s vibrant spirit. Embellished with intricate patterns and coral bead accents, the ensemble fuses traditional elements with a modern silhouette, resulting in a unique and eye-catching look.
Commonly worn by Igbo and Edo men, Isiagu is a ceremonial top often paired with trousers or wrappers made from vibrant fabrics like ankara or lace. Though naming may vary among ethnic groups in Edo State, Isiagu remains a widely recognised and respected form of traditional male attire in the region.
In an exclusive interview with My Afrika Magazine, Future Nyoni expressed his admiration for Tocar’s craftsmanship and their enduring collaboration.
“The collaboration between myself and Tocar Designs is not something new. He is—and will always be—my designer even before I cracked into the world of international modelling,” said Nyoni.
“When I attended the Mister Africa International pageant, he was among the designers who dressed me. You can see from his latest designs that this is unique and outstanding. I give all thumbs up to Tocar for the hard work he is doing every day.”
As Tocar continues to reimagine and celebrate African heritage through fashion, this latest showcase affirms its position as a trailblazer in Zimbabwe’s fashion scene, capturing global attention with each stitch and story.
