The Johannesburg premiere of Kwanele Finch Thusi’s contemporary reimagining of the ballet classic, Swan Lake (A New Ending), concluded to an outpouring of praise from audiences and critics alike. Staged from October 24–26, 2025, at the Mandela Theatre, Joburg Theatre, the production drew sold-out crowds and exceeded attendance expectations.

Finch’s bold reinterpretation, featuring male dancers embodying the four seasons, captivated audiences with its themes of transformation, hope, and queer empowerment. The performance’s emotional depth and originality left many viewers visibly moved.
