Spotlight: Drealnova a son of Soul and R’n’B

Born Thabani Vuyisile Moyake, Drealnova is a singer of contemporary music who boasts of a soulful voice that can be both hypnotic and charming all at once. His music is primarily Afro-Soul and R’n’B but he also dabbles in trap. He cites the likes of Usher, Chris Brown and R&B group the Jagged Edge as musical influences while also having an appreciation for a wide range of musical genres including country, indi-folk, Classical and Afro-Soul.

The signs of his musical gifts were evident from a young age. While he was only ten, he began singing in choir and by fourteen he was the drummer for a band named ‘The Change’. At age eighteen he joined the Zimpraise outfit. “Being a musician has been a great learning curve. Exploring my gifting as a singer and songwriter and evolving with each season and each year has been an interesting journey as I have gotten to learn a lot about finding my place in my journey as a creative and in relation to the industry.” He claims the most difficult part of the industry remaining consistent and overcoming seasons where inspiration is absent.

The musician’s debut EP titled ‘Novacane’ was released in 2021. The body of work was the result of Drealnova working with eight producers. Stand out singles from the album include “Cleopatra” in which he pays homage to a woman he admires. The acoustic style “Kure Kwegava” a song about lost love in which the singer delivers with decorated riffs and heartfelt emotion.

He recently released a song titled “Soft (Prayer)” which was accompanied by a visualizer. The song speaks of the coveted “soft life” and luxury. Drealnova also works as a songwriter and was a co-writer to the song ‘Komborera’ a song sung by Zimbabwean dancehall staple, Freeman; the song was included on Freeman’s 2022 album ‘David and Goliath’.

He plans to continue in both writing and releasing his own music while finding an audience at a global level; he is now currently based in Washington D.C in the United States. Apart from his music he enjoys fashion, architecture, and visual arts (painting, drawing, photography and videography). The musician’s work is available to view, stream and purchase online while his social media channels are regularly up to date with information and updates concerning the crooner.
