Soweto Fashion Week’s curtains came down on the 10th of May. What was established in 2011 as a fashion empowerment show in Soweto is now spreading its wings across the global fashion industry.
Soweto Fashion Week has hosted more than 120 designers and over 1,000 runway models from across Africa on its ramp over the past thirteen years. This year’s Autumn/Winter fashion season saw over 30 designers and 80 models take part in the show. This year, the event featured diverse runway collections, valuable networking opportunities, and engaging activations.
One of the sponsors, Creme of Nature, expressed strong confidence in the Soweto Fashion Week brand and explained that this belief is one of the reasons behind their collaboration. “We are incredibly proud to support Soweto Fashion Week. This collaboration is a true reflection of Creme of Nature’s commitment to celebrating authentic African beauty, culture, and community throughout the continent,” said Zandi Zinganto, Brand Manager of Creme of Nature.
“We decided to partner with SFW this year because we are all about championing bold, local fashion. While South African style comes in many forms, streetwear holds a special place in our hearts,” Zinganto added. Some of the designers who showcased their work included Oakfield, Musawenkosi (The Homecoming), Tshwane University of Technology, Enhle Babes Couture, Uju Designs, Imperium, and others.
The show also featured a Question-and-Answer segment. Its curtains opened to the public on the 7th of May.
