Kenya and Finland have reaffirmed their strong bilateral ties during the historic first-ever State Visit to Kenya by a Finnish President, Alexander Stubb.
Held at State House Nairobi, the high-level talks between President William Ruto and President Stubb marked a significant moment in the diplomatic relations between the two nations, culminating in the signing of two key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) — one on Political Consultations and another on Peace Mediation and Conflict Resolution.
President Ruto hailed Finland as a steadfast partner in Kenya’s development journey, noting the European nation’s longstanding support across critical sectors.
“Kenya deeply values its longstanding friendship with Finland, a key development partner in Europe and a steadfast supporter of our national ambitions,” said Ruto.
He further emphasized Kenya’s commitment to leveraging Finnish expertise in education, technology, renewable energy, and climate action as part of the country’s transformation strategy.
President Stubb echoed the sentiments, describing Kenya as an “excellent long-standing partner” and a key player in multilateralism and regional peace.
“We held a tête-à-tête with President William Ruto in Nairobi… We also agreed on increasing cooperation between our countries in various fields, including the economy,” he said in a post following the meeting.
The two leaders also discussed global and regional challenges, including the war in Ukraine and conflict in East Africa — underlining their shared commitment to peace, security, and rule-based international order.
The visit sets a new chapter in Kenya-Finland relations, built on mutual respect, progressive values, and global cooperation.
