Lawrence Maleka Named Ultimate DSTV Viewer’s Choice Award Winner

The South African entertainment industry is one of the most vibrant industries on the continent.

It has produced some of the top actors in Africa and the SAFTA-winning actor, also in the series The River, Lawrence Maleka was yesterday the host who also granted two awards at the DSTV Viewer’s Choice Awards.

The awards came back, following a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic and this year were held at Sun Arena in Pretoria.

The winners were determined by the public through voting.

Maleka is owning the screens at the moment, having recently hosted Big Brother Mzansi and this year he hosted the fourth instalment of the popular awards show.

Maleka won the Favorite Television Presenter award and the Ultimate DSTV Viewer’s Choice Award, whilst Connie Ferguson walked away with Favourite Personality and dedicated her award to her late husband Shona Ferguson.

Limpopo-born star Makhadzi walked away with two awards on the night, including favourite artist.

Gomora actress Sannah Mchunu also scooped the favourite actress award. Mchunu came to limelight after playing the role of Nomarashiya in the SABC2 series Muvhango. However, the role of Zodwa that she plays on Mzansi Magic drama series Gomora has brought her praises from viewers and it has also resulted in her winning this prestigious award.

Artists who performed included Zakes Bantwini, Mskai, Sun EL Musician, Tuks Senganga, Nomfundo Moh, Kamo Mphela, Boohle and Pabi Cooper. There were also appearances by Boity, Somizi and Thando Thabethe.

The DMVCAs seek to honor the top achievers who have made their mark over the past two years in television, radio, music, sports and comedy.
