Zimbabwean sports administrator, youth leader and martial artist Tanaka Nyakuipa was recently appointed as World Ambassador for Zimbabwe by the United Countries Sports Management Council (UCSMC), a global body driving professional sports management, education and international collaboration.

The appointment places Nyakuipa within the UCSMC Global Ambassador Network, where she will champion sports management education, strengthen international sports collaboration, connect professionals and institutions, and support youth empowerment and sports development across Zimbabwe, Africa and globally.

It is a major international milestone for a young leader whose journey has moved from accounting and business into full-time sports leadership, administration and community development.

From Accounting to Sports Leadership, Nyakuipa’s foundation is in business and finance. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University and holds a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business under the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). She recently sat her final ACCA examination, completing her ACCA journey.

That background in finance, governance and organisational management has become her edge in sport.

Determined to professionalise her contribution to sport, she expanded into specialised sports education through the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, completing a Sport Management Course and an Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC). She has also trained in sports administration, coaching, sport psychology, sport event management, safeguarding, athletes’ agreements, athlete welfare, career transition, financial fitness, branding and prevention of competition manipulation.

For her, sport is not just competition, but it is education, leadership, economic opportunity and social development.

Nyakuipa has built a solid track record in Zimbabwean sport governance. She served as Treasurer of the Zimbabwe Karate Union (ZKU) from March 2023 to April 2026 before being elevated to Secretary General in April 2026. In that role, she works alongside Shidosh Wilfred Mashaya (Zim Ninja) and Shihan Tawanda Mufundidi to advance the administration and development of karate in Zimbabwe.

She also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe Traditional Sports and Games Federation from February 2025 to April 2026.

Her commitment to integrity and Olympic values has seen her serve as a Prevention of Competition Manipulation Ambassador since October 2025, and as a Young Olympic Ambassador working with the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, championing fair play, inclusion and youth leadership.

Nyakuipa’s leadership has increasingly taken her beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. In 2025, she represented Zimbabwe at the African Women Martial Arts Leaders Programme in Uganda, strengthening her advocacy for women and girls in martial arts and sports leadership.

In 2026, she represented Zimbabwe at the 66th International Session for Young Olympic Ambassadors in Greece, joining young leaders from across the world to engage on Olympic values, leadership and the future of sport.

She also participated in the International Society of Olympic Historians (ISOH) competition under the theme “The First Olympians of My Country: The Road to the Games,” linking Zimbabwe’s sporting heritage to Olympic education.

Beyond administration, Nyakuipa is an active martial artist. She practices Kyokushin karate, where she holds a green belt, and also trains in kickboxing.

That lived experience shapes her philosophy: sport builds more than champions – it builds character.

“Sport can teach discipline, resilience, respect, responsibility, confidence and teamwork,” she says. For her, the dojo and the boardroom teach the same lessons.

She is particularly passionate about girls and young women in sport, advocating for safe, inclusive and supportive sporting spaces that allow girls to build confidence, develop leadership skills and access pathways to education, careers and leadership in traditionally male-dominated environments.

Nyakuipa’s vision goes beyond elite sport. She wants to see sport become more accessible and meaningful to communities, especially for young people who lack access to leadership and professional development opportunities.

She believes sport must be used as a tool for social inclusion, youth empowerment and positive community change, a foundation for excellence in life, not just on the medal podium.

Speaking on her appointment as UCSMC World Ambassador for Zimbabwe, Nyakuipa described it as both an honour and a responsibility. The role gives her an international platform to connect Zimbabwe’s sporting community to global networks, exchange knowledge and contribute to conversations on professional sports management and development.

Her mission is clear; to connect, learn, empower and create opportunities through sport.

The UCSMC says her appointment is part of its strategy to expand its global sports management network and deepen engagement with the Zimbabwean sports community.

For Nyakuipa, it is not simply a title, it is a call to serve. With a rare combination of accounting, business, sports administration, martial arts, youth leadership and community engagement, she is positioning herself to contribute to a more professional, inclusive and sustainable sporting environment for Zimbabwe.

Her guiding message remains, “Educate, Empower, Excel.”
