The seven-time champions, Dynamos, had a disappointing start to their 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign, suffering a 2-0 defeat. In their season opener on Sunday, March 10th, at Barboufields Stadium, Dynamos faced off against their main rivals, Highlanders.

Highlanders kicked off the 2024 PSL season on a positive note, delighting their tens of thousands of supporters with a three-point victory at home. Melikhaya Ncube and Archford Faira secured the win for Highlanders with their two goals.

Despite numerous opportunities, Dynamos’ Valentine Kadonzvo failed to convert chances into goals, leaving the Blue team frustrated. Ncube Melikhaya broke the deadlock with Highlanders’ first goal of the season, while Alexander Mandinyenya prevented Dynamos from leaving Bulawayo without scoring.

However, Faira sealed the victory for Highlanders with a goal in the 60th minute, ensuring a comfortable win. Despite the defeat, both sets of fans displayed maturity, with no reports of conflict or violence. Some fans from both Dynamos and Highlanders were even seen celebrating together in the streets of Bulawayo.

In the first eight games of the Castle Lager PLS season, a total of 18 goals have been scored. Notable results include Caps United 0-1 Chicken Inn, FC Platinum 1-0 Chegutu Pirates, and ZPC Kariba 2-2 Telone, among others.
