
The global athletics spotlight turns to Sweden as the prestigious Gothenburg World Youth Games kick off from June 26 to 30. The annual competition has long been a major fixture in the Swedish athletics calendar, drawing a vibrant mix of youth talent from around the world. With over 3,000 participants and nearly 8,000 starts expected during the three-day event, the Games promise thrilling performances.
Representing Zimbabwe is rising track star Takunda Munyayi, a 200m–400m sprinter with a particular focus on the 400m. Speaking to My Afrika Magazine, Munyayi expressed confidence and national pride ahead of the international showdown.
“I am ready to fly our country’s flag high, and I pray that everything goes in our favour. I plead to everyone in the country to support me throughout my journey,” he said.
Describing the Gothenburg Games as a “global platform that gives young athletes the chance to showcase their talent,” Munyayi views the event as an opportunity to make his mark on the international stage.
Takunda’s journey is being supported by RM Agency, who provided him with essential sports gear for the competition. As part of his preparation, the young athlete competed in the 400m event at the Dubai Athletics Grand Prix on May 9, 2025.
All eyes are now on Munyayi as he prepares to represent Zimbabwe with pride and determination on the world stage.
