GABORONE, Botswana — President Duma Gideon Boko has officially welcomed General Mpho Mophuting as the new Commander of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF), following a Change of Command ceremony held earlier today in Gaborone.

During the ceremony, President Boko commended General Mophuting for his distinguished service and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the BDF into a new era of professionalism, modernization, and accountability.

General Mophuting, in his inaugural address, shared his vision for a modern, disciplined, and people-centred defence force, one that not only defends Botswana’s sovereignty but also upholds integrity and fairness within its ranks.

President Boko reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Defence Force as a cornerstone of Botswana’s peace and stability, stating,

“Under General Mophuting’s leadership, I am confident that the Botswana Defence Force will continue to stand firm as a guardian of peace and a symbol of national unity.”

The Change of Command marks a significant moment in Botswana’s military history, signaling continuity, renewal, and a shared vision for a secure and prosperous nation underpinned by a professional and people-focused defence force.
