The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the National Arts Council of South Africa (NACSA) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant partnership aimed at enhancing the arts and culture sectors in both nations.

The MoU, signed on September 9, 2024, at NACSA’s Head Office in Newtown, Johannesburg, represents a landmark collaboration between the two organizations, highlighting their shared commitment to fostering growth, sustainability, and innovation within the cultural landscape.

‘As the funding agency of the National Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, the NAC is
deliberate in ensuring that we are an accessible and responsive funding agency, delivering
public value by leveraging partnerships to foster the development, promotion and
sustainability of the arts sector as mandated. As such, we see this MoU as a significant step
forward for the two organisations to partner on activities of mutual interest to strengthen
opportunities for artists in both countries.’ said in a statement by NACSA

The partnership, which aligns with NACZ’s vision of creating a vibrant and sustainable cultural and creative industry by 2030, will focus on various key areas including cultural and creative exchange programs, heritage preservation initiatives, arts education, and research and development in the arts sector.

These initiatives are expected to bolster relations between the two councils, creating reciprocal benefits for artists from both countries.

Mr. Napoleon Nyanhi, Executive Director of NACZ, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing its potential to enhance cultural ties between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Ms. Julie Diphofa, NACSA’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of knowledge exchange and mutual learning in strengthening the arts sector.

This partnership represents a pivotal step forward in fostering collaboration on projects of shared interest, ensuring expanded opportunities for artists across both nations.
