In a strong statement against insecurity and criminal violence, President William Samoei Ruto presided over the destruction of more than 6,000 illegal firearms at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong’, Kajiado County.
The firearms, recovered across the country between 2022 and 2025, were destroyed as part of a broader government effort to rid Kenyan communities of illicit weapons and reinforce national security.
“The destruction of more than 6,000 illegal firearms recovered between 2022 and 2025 signals our total focus in tackling insecurity and violence in our communities,” said President Ruto during the event. The move, he emphasized, is a demonstration of the government’s resolve to create safer communities and disrupt criminal networks.
In addition to addressing illegal arms, President Ruto acknowledged growing public concerns about police misconduct, reiterating the government’s commitment to reforming the security sector. “We also commit to protect Kenyans from rogue police officers. Criminal elements in uniform must be held to account,” he stated.
The symbolic destruction of the firearms comes at a time when Kenya is strengthening its security infrastructure and rebuilding public trust in law enforcement agencies. The event in Ngong’ brought together senior police officials, community leaders, and members of civil society, all witnessing a renewed pledge to uphold justice and accountability.
As Kenya moves forward with its security and governance reforms, the government continues to call for public cooperation in reporting illegal arms and misconduct, underscoring that community vigilance is key to sustaining peace and security across the nation.
