Is this the end to an era for the longest serving leaders in Africa, General, President Yowere Museveni, President of Uganda. 

The question has been trending on social media, as the controversial son of the Uganda’s veteran leader, Yoweri Musevini announced plans to run for the presidency  in the 2026 elections  saying ‘it was time for our generation to shine’. In a deleted post which was tweeted on Wednesday. 

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba had made the announcement  on Wednesday night. 

Many speculations  have been made before, that General Muhoozi was being groomed political to take over from his father. 

However previously the 48 year old has in the past denied that his rising through Uganda’s army ranks is a aign thst he is planning to take over from his father.

In his tweet he had wrote:

“You have wanted me to say it forever! Okay, in the name of Jesus Christ my God, in the name of all the young people of Uganda and the world, and in the name of our great revolution, I will stand for the Presidency in 2026!”

In the tweet he further stated that its time for young people to be in power. 

General Muhoozi is not new in controversial  tweets, he once criticised the government  for not being to tackle corruption which was being done by some ministers. 

He also gained popularity last year over a tweet threatening to invade Kenya, which President Museveni apologised to Kenya, he also trended on his support towards the Trigrayan rebels which angered Ethiopia. 

His thought about Russia-Ukraine Conflict and the Guinea Coup that he tweeted have also gained interest across the globe.
