Zanu PF emerged victorious in the recent by-elections for Mt Pleasant and Harare East constituencies, solidifying its presence in Harare’s political landscape.
In Mt Pleasant, Cde George Mashavave (Zanu PF) secured a convincing win with 3,205 votes, defeating his closest competitor, independent candidate Mr Naison Mamuse (945 votes). The seat became vacant after Ms Fadzayi Mahere (formerly CCC) resigned.
Harare East followed a similar pattern. Cde Kiven Mutimbanyoka (Zanu PF) triumphed over independent candidate Mrs Ropafadzo Cheza (3,533 votes to 1,974 votes). Mr Norman Markham’s resignation created this vacancy.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission confirmed the results, highlighting Zanu PF’s continued dominance in Zimbabwean politics.
Zanu PF Political Commissar Cde Mike Bimha expressed gratitude for voters’ trust in the party’s policies under President Mnangagwa. He saw the victories as proof of the party’s growing popularity. While concerns about low voter turnout exist, Cde Bimha emphasized the importance of winning, and both candidates secured victories.
As Zanu PF celebrates its success, attention turns to the newly elected members who will serve their constituencies and contribute to national development. With seven seats in Harare Metropolitan Province, the party reaffirms its position as a major force in Zimbabwean politics.
