Gathry Chiredzero (GC) is a Zimbabwean fitness model, widely regarded as one of the tallest models in the country. With his unique blend of natural fitness and unapologetic authenticity, he adds an inspiring edge to his curriculum vitae.
Born and raised in Harare, Gathry’s journey into modeling and fitness is a testament to discipline, creativity, and passion. In this exclusive interview, he opens up about his career, goals, values, and the challenges he’s faced within the fitness industry.
TR: Can you tell us about your background and how you got into modeling and fitness?
GC: I was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe, and from an early age, I had a deep appreciation for personal style and physical discipline. I got into modeling after being scouted during a local fashion event, and it quickly became a passion. Around the same time, I started taking fitness more seriously—not just for aesthetics, but for health and confidence. The two worlds naturally complemented each other.
TR: What makes your modeling career unique compared to others in the industry?
GC: I think what sets me apart is the combination of my African heritage, my height and build, and my commitment to natural fitness. I bring a strong sense of identity to every shoot, and I strive to represent both modern style and cultural authenticity.
TR: How do you balance your modeling career with your fitness training and other responsibilities?
GC: It’s all about discipline and time management. I treat fitness like a job—it’s part of my brand. I schedule shoots and training carefully and make sure to leave space for recovery, travel, and personal growth. Balance also means knowing when to say no.
TR: Can you walk us through your typical fitness routine and how you maintain your physique?
GC: I follow a structured weekly plan that includes strength training, mobility work, and cardio. I split muscle groups across the week—for example, push/pull/legs—and incorporate high-intensity interval training (HIIT) for endurance. I also watch my nutrition closely, focusing on whole foods and proper hydration.
TR: How do you ensure that you’re building muscle naturally, without resorting to performance-enhancing substances?
GC: I stick to clean nutrition, consistent training, and rest. Supplements are minimal—just protein, creatine, and vitamins if needed. I believe in long-term results and integrity, so I’ve never felt the need to compromise my health or values for short-term gains.
TR: You’ve participated in international modeling projects. Can you tell us about some of your most memorable experiences abroad?
GC: One of the most memorable was a campaign I did where I got to work with a diverse team of creatives from around the world. The energy on set was incredible, and it reminded me how global fashion can bring people together. I also loved seeing how my African roots resonated internationally.
TR: What are your major plans and goals for your modeling career in the next year?
GC: I’m looking to expand my reach into more commercial and editorial work, possibly sign with an international agency, and continue building a presence that represents African excellence. I’m also open to branching into brand ambassadorships and fashion entrepreneurship.
TR: Are there any specific brands or projects that you’re looking to collaborate with in the future?
GC: I’d love to work with global athletic and lifestyle brands like Nike, Puma, or Adidas, as well as fashion houses that celebrate diversity. Collaborating with African brands that are gaining international recognition is also high on my list.
TR: How do you stay current with the latest trends and developments in the modeling and fitness industries?
GC: I stay updated by following top industry professionals, attending events, reading fashion and fitness publications, and watching trends on social media. I also learn from my peers—modeling and fitness are always evolving, so being a student of the game is key.
TR: What message do you hope to convey to your fans and followers through your modeling and fitness work?
GC: I want people to see that discipline, authenticity, and pride in your roots can take you far. I aim to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness, live healthily, and pursue their goals relentlessly—no shortcuts, just real work and real passion.
TR: How do you think your Harare roots have influenced your modeling career, and vice versa?
GC: Harare taught me resilience and creativity—two things you need in this industry. There’s a raw, bold energy in Zimbabwean culture that I try to bring to every project. In turn, my modeling has helped me reflect that local strength on a global stage.
TR: What role do you see yourself playing in promoting Zimbabwean talent and culture through your work?
GC: I want to be a bridge—someone who brings Zimbabwean excellence into international conversations. Whether it’s by mentoring young models, collaborating with local designers, or simply representing with pride, I aim to show that Zimbabwe has talent that can stand tall on any runway or campaign.
