KIRINYAGA, KENYA — President William Samoei Ruto has announced the near completion of the Gichugu Affordable Housing Project, a flagship initiative under the government’s affordable housing programme. The development, launched in August 2023, is now 99% complete and will soon be handed over to the public.
“We are finalising the project and preparing for the official handover, fulfilling our commitment to deliver 110 decent homes to the people of Gichugu,” said President Ruto in a statement, reaffirming the government’s promise to improve access to dignified, affordable housing for all Kenyans.
Located in Kianyaga Town, Gichugu Constituency, in Kirinyaga County, the project features studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units designed to suit a range of income levels. In addition to housing, the development includes modern social amenities, green spaces, and well-planned infrastructure aimed at promoting a safe, vibrant, and sustainable community.
Strategically positioned near the Deputy County Commissioner’s office and the Kianyaga Police Station, the housing estate is expected to boost local socio-economic activity while addressing the county’s pressing need for quality residential options.
According to a statement by the Affordable Housing Board, the units are now ready for allocation. “The Gichugu Affordable Housing Project is now ready for allocation, offering 110 well-designed units including studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom homes tailored for all income levels.“
The project is part of President Ruto’s broader housing agenda aimed at delivering over 200,000 affordable housing units annually, as part of Kenya’s long-term development plan. With Gichugu nearing handover, it stands as a milestone in delivering housing equity and fostering inclusive urban development.
