From the gym to the pageant stage, A.G Scott’s authenticity and passion shine through.
Discover more about his inspiring story as he shares with My Afrika Magazine his journey from the bodybuilding sector to the modeling industry. During the interview, A.G Scott explains in detail why he believes he is a good example of what it means to inspire the boy child in Africa.
TR: Let us get to know you better! Can you introduce yourself, share a bit about your background, and what you’re passionate about outside of the pageant?
AS: My name is A.G Scott. I am one of the official finalists for Mister Global SA. I am just an average guy from South Africa who mostly keeps to himself, spends most of his time in the gym, and enjoys being at home with my wife and pets. I am passionate about fitness, it is just my way of life. It has helped me through so much that I honestly cannot go without it anymore.
TR: A.G, you have taken on the “Coming Out of the Box” challenge at Mister Global, choosing dancing as your category. How did you find the experience, and what did you learn about yourself?
AS: I found it surprisingly more complicated than I initially thought. I admit, I thought, “It cannot be that hard, right?” until they had me sweating like I was doing a cardio session! I learnt that I actually enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone. I would definitely do it again because I loved the feeling of trying something new. I also learnt I have got no rhythm, lol!
TR: What inspired you to participate in Mister Global SA, and what do you hope to achieve through this platform?
AS: I was actually scouted by Nelius Du Preez. I had not planned on competing this year in any event, but when I got the news that I had been scouted, I thought, “Let me give it a shot, Nelius sees something in me that I do not.” I hope to become a symbol and to inspire people to get into fitness not just for the physical benefits, but also for the mental health benefits. Fitness helped me grow as a person. I used to be insecure and anxious, but that all changed. They say if you look good, you feel good and that is what I want for people. Did you know that while you exercise, your brain actually releases what they call “feel-good chemicals” like serotonin? It helps improve your mood!
TR: Since announcing your entry into the pageant, how has your journey been so far? Any memorable moments or surprises?
AS: It has been so fun so far. I have got a couple of events I am attending, even a few fashion shows.
I am taking part in all of them because I entered this pageant, and it is crazy! I would never have done these things before, and now here I am, booked for the next three weekends.
TR: Can you tell us about your charity or community work? What impact is it having on your community, and what drives your passion for this cause?
AS: Currently, there are two events I will be attending. One is a fundraiser hosted by a few people, including the reigning Mister Global SA, Anton Siebert, which I will be attending to show my support. The second is a pageant show where I will actually be a judge, it is also a fundraiser for the girls walking on stage. What drives me is the desire to support fellow pageant contestants, because being in the same boat, I have realized there isn’t always a lot of support out there. Even if I am just one person showing up, it is still one more person they did not have.
TR: Why do you believe you have what it takes to be crowned Mister Global SA, and what unique qualities do you bring to the table?
AS: I bring authenticity to the stage. What you see is what you get. I try to be as transparent and straightforward as possible so people know what to expect. Who I am off stage is the same person you will find on stage, there is no alternate persona. I believe I can win because Mister Global SA is all about being genuine.
TR: As you prepare for the Mister Global SA competition, what message do you hope to convey to your audience, and how do you plan to use your platform for good?
AS: I want to say to the audience: Do it. Chase your dreams and while you are at it, have fun and enjoy the journey, because the person you become at the end will not be the same as the one who started. Right now, I mostly reach my local community and friends, but with the Mister Global platform, I will be able to reach many more people and that is the goal. I am not trying to change the whole world, but if I can change one person’s world for the better, I will be happy. That person can then go on to touch and change another life, creating a ripple effect that hopefully brings positive change to even more people.
TR: What motivated you to take part in Mister Global SA? Was it a personal goal, someone’s influence, or an opportunity that came your way?
AS: It was an opportunity that came my way and it is one I am looking to take full advantage of to make an impact in my own way.
TR: Lastly, if you win, how will the boy child in South Africa benefit from your success?
AS: I would say, my winning would give them a symbol of someone to take inspiration from. I am a good example of that because this is my first ever pageant. I usually compete in bodybuilding. So if I were to win, it would show them that no matter your background, you can achieve your goals and that you can adapt to anything in life. I had to adapt and step up to the challenges of public speaking, community work, charity, and more. I used to do everything like a lone wolf no one saw what I was doing until I got on stage. Now, everything I do, someone is watching or involved. So yes, if I win, I believe I can be a symbol for the boy child.
