Cricket fans across Southern Africa are set for an exciting white-ball spectacle as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia prepare to face off in a highly anticipated T20 International tri-series in Namibia.
The tournament will bring together three of the continent’s leading cricket nations for a seven-match contest, offering supporters an opportunity to witness international cricket on home soil while giving the teams valuable preparation ahead of next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the three nations.
Namibia’s cricket authorities have urged supporters from across the country to turn out in numbers and create a memorable atmosphere throughout the tournament.
“We encourage cricket fans from across Namibia to come out in their numbers and enjoy world-class international cricket featuring three of Africa’s leading cricketing nations,” the organisers said.
“This promises to be a memorable celebration of the game and a fantastic opportunity to support the Eagles on home soil.”
For South Africa, the series represents more than just competitive preparation. Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki said the tour underlines the organisation’s commitment to strengthening cricket across the region while building momentum towards the World Cup.
“We are excited to be part of this white-ball tour, which not only further demonstrates our commitment to strengthening the game in our neighbouring countries, but also builds excitement ahead of next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be co-hosted by all three nations,” Moseki said.
The tri-series will also provide an important platform for Zimbabwe and Namibia, allowing both sides to test themselves against high-quality opposition while giving their players valuable international exposure.
The tournament begins on 28 August, when South Africa take on hosts Namibia. Zimbabwe will enter the competition the following day against South Africa before the three teams continue their round-robin campaign.
With each side facing the other twice, the tournament promises a competitive battle for the top two positions and a place in the final.
