In what is set to be a powerful debut, Avril “Loveletter” T. Nachipo (AN) unleashes WO/MAN’S WORTH, a compelling exploration of identity, resilience, and self-discovery.
As a first time author, Avril, steps into the literary spotlight with with a book set to resonate with readers everywhere.

I recently caught up with Nachipo (AN) to dive into the world of WO/MAN’S WORTH and the journey that led to its creation.

BK: Who is Avril T. Nachipo? Who is Loveletter?
AN: So it is quite difficult to separate the two, as at times they co-exist. But if I am to try, Avril T Nachipo is a Marketer who attained her Degree, in International Marketing at Chinhoyi University, and is currently employed at 3KTv. Loveletter is a mental health advocate, who uses her poetry, articles, and spoken word as a means by which to spread her message.

BK: What/Who inspired you to write WO/MAN’S WORTH? And what message do you hope readers take away?
AN: My first inspiration came from God. I have experienced periods in life whereby I have been crushed, feeling unworthy and seeking validation. I feel God used all those situations to teach me lessons on self worth. So as you will see, the chapters in my book are based on different phases, challenges and encounters which have taught me about my worth.
Inspiration was also derived from my late grandfather. I have fond memories of him speaking to me on issues such as self love, worth, amongst other valuable life lessons. Just before he passed on, I remember his speaking to me about self love, and how no one will ever love you more than you can love yourself, that is even the reason why in part, it is dedicated to him.

BK: As a first time author, what has been the most surprising part of publishing your book?
AN:
Most surprising was the excitement that people showed at the news I was soon to publish a book. I had always wondered to myself who would read it, or if anyone would relate. In writing it, I was writing about what I had gone through, only to find out a lot of people resonated with my experiences as well.
The reception that my book has received, not only from peers, but those older than myself, has been overwhelming.

BK: How does your personal journey relate to the themes of identity and resilience in the book?
AN:
The book is based mainly on my personal journey. I used characters that I have played, and those I have encountered to bring to life WO/MAN’S WORTH. I wanted different readers to relate to certain characters, and though this book is soon to be published, it is far from complete, because self love and self worth is a never ending journey, one I believe I am still on.

BK: What was the most challenging part of writing WO/MAN’S WORTH? And how did you overcome them?
AN:
Consistency. Being my first book, I fell victim to people who projected their fears onto me. Though there was some negativity, I had a really strong support system that was with me every step of the way. I would like to thank my mum, who was always on my ail, pushing and offering encouragement. I would also like to thank God, for allowing me to go out of my comfort zone and manage to write at hours that I would have much rather slept.

BK: What is next for you as a writer? Are there any upcoming projects?
AN:
As I mentioned earlier, discovering ones self worth is a journey, so there is a possibility of a second edition to WO/MAN’S WORTH, though under a different title. I wont say much at this time, but there is surely more to come from me.

BK: How does it feel to be launching your debut novel?
AN:
Exciting is the word. Nerve-wrecking is another.

BK: What advise would you give aspiring writers?
AN:
My advice would be, “Whatever story you have is worth sharing”. you can never know how your work will be received until you put it out there. Do not allow negative comments to stop you. So if you have a story, TELL IT.

BK: When and where are you launching your book, and how can readers get a copy?
AN:
The event is to be held at Batanai Gardens (Cnr First Street and Jason Moyo), on the 25 of April from 2-5pm.
