The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) recently welcomed the Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence, Arnold Kammel, and his delegation, marking another milestone in the mission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation in support of Mozambique’s defence capabilities.  

During the visit, the Austrian delegation met with Commodore César Pires Correia, Mission Force Commander of EUMAM MOZ. The discussions provided an opportunity to exchange views on the mission’s objectives and achievements, while the ceremonial signing of the EUMAM MOZ Honour Book symbolised Austria’s commitment to shared values of partnership and solidarity.  

The delegation’s programme included visits to two key training facilities,Katembe Military Training Camp: Austrian officials observed the regeneration of the Quick Reaction Force (QRF), a vital component of Mozambique’s defence readiness.  

Maputo Military Driving School, Here, a Mobile Training Team (MTT) from the Austrian Armed Forces is delivering specialised training in ammunition management. Covering the entire ammunition life cycle, safe storage, stock management, and standardised technical practices, this training enhances operational safety and strengthens the autonomy of the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM).  

These visits highlight the importance of sustained cooperation between EU Member States and Mozambique. Austria’s contribution, particularly through its deployed MTT, reflects the broader European commitment to supporting the professionalisation and operational readiness of the FADM. As a non-executive mission, EUMAM MOZ focuses on training cycles, maintenance, and specialised instruction. By bringing together military and civilian personnel from across Europe, the mission fosters collaboration while ensuring compliance with International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law.  

The Austrian delegation’s engagement in Mozambique underscores the value of collective action in building resilient defence structures. Through training, technical expertise, and shared responsibility, EUMAM MOZ continues to contribute to Mozambique’s stability and security, reinforcing the EU’s role as a trusted partner in Africa.
