The Stellenbosch University December Graduation Series this week honored one of Africa’s most influential figures, Strive Masiyiwa, with an honorary doctorate in Engineering. Masiyiwa’s vision has consistently transcended borders, with his investments spanning continents from Africa to Europe, the Americas, and beyond. His ability to bridge gaps between technology, infrastructure, and communities has established him as a global leader in the telecommunications sector.

Beyond business, Masiyiwa’s heart beats for Africa’s future. Together with his wife Tsitsi and eldest daughter Elizabeth Tanya, he leads transformative initiatives through Higherlife Foundation and Delta Philanthropies. These efforts have provided over 300,000 scholarships to African youth, alongside programs targeting education, health, women and children, and rural transformation.

Masiyiwa’s accolades include the World Food Prize Borlaug Medallion, the W. E. B. Du Bois Medal, and honorary doctorates from prestigious institutions like Yale, Morehouse College, and Nelson Mandela University. Most recently, he was elected an International Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2023.
