Cookiie, the Rising Star in UK and US Rap Scene
In an exclusive interview with My Afrika Magazine, Cookiie, also known as Cookiie With A Double I, opens up about her creative journey as a rising star in the UK rap scene, with her sights now set on the US market.
Known for her unique blend of R&B, Hip-Hop, and Pop, Cookiie has also made waves in the fashion industry as a designer, seamlessly combining her passions for music and style. She shares the inspiration behind her new single Cookiie Jar, her upcoming EP, and how fashion has been a driving force in her creative expression.
MM: Who is Cookiie?
Cookiie: I’m a UK artist creating R&B, Hip-Hop, and Pop music. Along with music, I’m also a hat designer. My work has been featured in Source Magazine, BBC Fashion, and the ZWAGS reality TV show.
MM: Music seems like a new direction—what brought you into it?
Cookiie: Music allows me to express myself in ways that fashion alone couldn’t. My music complements my fashion as I feature my hat designs in my music videos. It’s a way to merge my love for words, style, and creativity.
MM: Your new single, “Cookiie Jar”—what’s the story behind it?
Cookiie: Cookiie Jar is about understanding your self-worth. It encourages women to value themselves and “keep the cookie in the jar,” meaning don’t be too accessible. I created it in Dallas, Texas in 2023 with my longtime friend, Gachi, who’s also featured on the track.
MM: Any other music projects?
Cookiie: This year, I’ve been working on my EP, which I’m so excited to share soon. Right now, I’m dropping singles every month to keep my fans engaged before the EP release.
MM: Are you still involved in the fashion world? What inspires you?
Cookiie: Yes, I’m currently the head of creative design for a clothing brand called PaparARTzzi, launching soon! Fashion is in my DNA; it allows me to express myself and tell my story. I couldn’t imagine my life without it.
MM: What can fans look forward to?
Cookiie: Expect more music and fashion! I just dropped a music video for Cookiie Jar with Gachi, and I plan to release a couple more singles before the EP. Stay tuned on my Instagram for updates. Thank you for this opportunity, much love!
