At least 15 designers are set to headline the Food and Wine Fashion Show, which will be held in Victoria Falls. Robby Kimmel, one of the organisers of the fashion event, informed My Afrika Magazine that the participating designers include both local and international talents.

“We have seven designers from Harare, two from South Africa, as well as designers from Lesotho, and one each from Bulawayo and Gweru,” said Robby. Robby stated that all the designers are under the age of 25 and are set to showcase new collections.

“The talent represents a new aspect of fashion design in Southern African countries. These are some of the best creative minds coming together to showcase at one of the world’s seven wonders,” added Robby. He also mentioned that walking the runway will be local models from the Majestic City of Victoria Falls.

He noted that some of these models have represented Zimbabwe on international platforms. “We are going to have at least 25 models, young women and men with a passion for beauty and self-expression,” Robby said.

The event is expected to host more than 300 people. Regarding the origin of the event, Robby said it had been in the pipeline since last year. He further explained that the event aims to inspire young people in Victoria Falls to consider employment opportunities beyond the tourism and hospitality sector.

“This event will inspire children to believe that their dreams and aspirations are achievable, rather than thinking that the only path in life is to work in a hotel or lodge because of the area’s tourism focus,” said Robby. He encouraged the youth in the area to explore opportunities in sectors like fashion and science, and to take advantage of advancements in AI.

“The event is happening on Saturday, the 31st of May, and we are considering expanding it into Sunday, the 1st of June, for the skateboard club. The whole goal is to make fashion more accessible. Tickets for the fashion event are priced at $20 USD,” said Robby.
