Some people generally look intelligent until they open their mouths. Then their thoughts, hearts’ desires and intentions are revealed first by their speech and lateheir actions. The mind is the centre for incubating thoughts before they are translated into words and deeds. When you hear the “I didn’t mean it” or “it just came out” statements, it shows how careless the speaker may be for not taking time to weigh and view possible consequences of their words. When words are spoken they can’t be unheard.

Ephesians 4: 29 says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” It is therefore a requirement that before you say anything you must consider the effects of the words. And to consider that depends on whether you understand the impact every single word has. The words we utter speak multitudes than can be imagined. They can bring healing or cause pain, soothe the soul or causes someone to wish they were dead.

We ponder in our minds dreams about how we plan to live a fruitful and fulfilling life. There you picture your dream house, vehicle and even a spouse. These are built somewhere in our imagination and brewed occasionally until they are ready to be served to an anticipating audience. Regardless that sometimes dreams or desires may not come true in our intended time as humans, the mind continues to function, processing other dreams and possible outcomes. These desires when merged with hope and faith can help cause the spiritual and supernatural to be physically manifested.

The creative mind is very powerful. God’s power of creation resides in us and with our tongue destinies are built or broken. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. In the heart dwells endless springs of either good or evil. From a tender age, children imagine themselves being pilots, doctors, teachers and lawyers when they become older because something within them feel there is a possibility of achieving that. Everyone was built this way.

Whatever is fed in our subconscious becomes our life’s reality. If you devout your time to useful instructions you will indeed be wise. It is also true that if you invest your precious time in destructive activities your life will be of no benefit to anyone, yourself included. Every muscle you exercise will become stronger but an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. The scripture says “My people perish because of lack of knowledge”. It is not that the knowledge is scarce but there is no interest to seek, learn and gain knowledge. You can not speak about a character of a movie you haven’t watched. Either you have seen it’s preview or sat through the full one and half hours. King David says, “I hid your word in my heart, that I may not sin against you.” What we hear and keep to heart transforms us. Bad company corrupts good morales. It is therefore everyone’s obligation to make sure they heed the word of wisdom which keeps them safe.

Words can show the innermost thoughts such as desperation, bitterness, hopelessness or fear as well as faith, optimism, courage or confidence. From a frowning face you can not anticipate an instant laugh. The frown can be a sign of sorrow, anger or pain; tears are more likely than a smile.

Actions spell out someone’s character, they do speak louder than words. As we journey on the road of life, we face a variety of people; temptations on two feet, certified arrogant busy bodies as well as the wise men from the east. This bunch of humans can help you understand the importance of possessing humility, patience, wisdom and forgiveness. “Do as I say, not as I do” implies that there teacher doesn’t practice what they preach. It is not difficult to separate words and actions because words can also be used to convince people of a goodness in a person. However, actions speak decades of lessons learnt and experience gathered that the mind and thoughts are saturated with a conviction of either thanksgiving or entitlement.

Christianity implies that we conduct ourselves the way Christ would have done were he here on earth now. No one is perfect but we look at him for guidance and direction. That way we can find joy and happiness in serving God as his disciples. Knowing that we once were unaware of how to live right must then help us to be more lenient and forgiving towards others who like us are on their way to redemption. However, I have come to understand how the human mind desires to punish just to prove a point. If God were a man, I am convinced some of us would have been disqualified from the race ahead of us. Thanks be to God for grace, we have been redeemed and deemed worthy to draw near to the Lord.

It is said to err is human and to forgive divine. Forgiveness speaks of a maturity in an individual to let go of the emotions connected to an action which hurt them. The act won’t be deleted just because you say sorry. You can not force someone to accept your forgiveness either. Forgiveness heals the soul of both the one who hurt another to the one who was hurt.

The problem with forgiveness comes when the one who allegedly caused the hurt doesn’t believe they hurt someone. It’s just like stepping on someone’s toes. You don’t feel any discomfort and if no one complains you won’t move. But when someone complain that you are hurting them, you can’t say you didn’t. He who feels it knows the pain. You are then obliged to say sorry for causing pain but your actions will show if it comes from a remorseful heart. As long as we are still in this tent we call flesh, we shall hurt and be hurt. But what matters most is if we harbor evil thoughts in the mind and heart or peaceful ones because they condition your action.

The human mind, body and soul must be in tune with each other. That is why there are many ways of trying to find calmness and balance with yourself. This balance will help you focus on the important things in life which bring inner peace. You will not try to live an extravagant lifestyle on a small paycheck. Rather you will live within your means and accept your current drought while anticipating a great harvest in future.

Daily we are reminded of the relationship between thoughts and actions. They separate the wise and fool regardless of status or age. When I was younger, youths were taught to “Think before you Act” which was meant to give awareness that every action has a consequence. Look at the pros and cons so that you have adequate information before you make any decision therefore as a man thinks so is he.
