As Namibia prepares to compete on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has officially handed the National Flag to Team Namibia, urging the athletes to compete with pride, integrity and a deep sense of national purpose.
The flag handover ceremony, held at State House ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, marks Namibia’s ninth appearance at the multi-sport event, which runs from 23 July to 2 August.
The Namibian delegation will compete across athletics, including para-athletics, boxing, gymnastics, lawn bowls and swimming, carrying the hopes of a nation eager to build on its sporting legacy.
Addressing the team, President Nandi-Ndaitwah congratulated the athletes on earning their place at the Games and acknowledged the commitment of coaches, administrators and families who have supported their journey.
She reminded the delegation that the Commonwealth Games are built on the values of excellence, friendship, inclusion and respect, encouraging every athlete to represent Namibia with humility while proudly carrying the national flag on the international stage.
Minister in the Presidency Charles Mubita echoed the President’s message, describing the athletes as ambassadors for Namibia’s culture, unity and values.
