Savanna Trust, a non-profit organization dedicated to utilizing theatre, radio drama, and film for social transformation and development, has recently launched the ACCEL ZW Theatre Festival.
This festival marks a significant milestone in their efforts to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and professional theatre.
In a recent press statement, Savanna Trust shared that the festival is the culmination of extensive capacity-building initiatives for four emerging and marginalized theatre groups. The primary goal is to provide a platform for these groups to showcase their talent and creativity while fostering inclusivity within the theatre industry. Scheduled to be an annual event, the ACCEL ZW Theatre Festival aims to immerse audiences in a world of creativity and inspiration.
The inaugural edition, themed ‘Inspire‘, is scheduled to take place from April 4th to April 6th this year at the prestigious Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre. In addition to captivating plays, the festival will feature seminars and conferences where industry players can engage in knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities.
Noteworthy is the participation of esteemed theatre artists from South Africa and Zambia, adding an international dimension to the event. This pioneering edition of the festival is made possible through collaborative efforts with key partners including the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe, European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe, University of Zimbabwe, and Jasen Mphepho Little Theatre. Such partnerships underscore the commitment to promoting cultural exchange and artistic development within Zimbabwe’s vibrant theatre landscape. [Source Savanna Trust]
