Cape Town-based Zimbabwean reggae artist Sandy, born Sandra Mudenda, is set to make waves in the international reggae scene with the release of her debut EP, Signature, on February 28, 2025. The five-track Roots Rock Reggae project is a testament to her journey, resilience, and passion for music.

Sandy’s love for reggae started when she worked as a store cashier at Royal Ras Centre and was captivated by a performance from One Drop Band. She later joined the group as a vocalist and began recording with producer Terrence “King Dread” Mpakula under King Dread Studios.

For Sandy, music is more than just entertainment—it’s a platform for change.
“I wanted to use music to communicate with the world, to address overlooked issues in society, and to inspire people just as the music I listen to has shaped my thinking,” she shared.

Her upcoming EP will showcase her powerful storytelling and reggae influences, all with a distinct Zimbabwean touch.

Despite her passion, Sandy has faced challenges, particularly limited funding, which has hindered some of her creative projects. However, she remains determined to break barriers in the industry.

“I see ‘Sandy’ becoming a household name in the next five years, performing on big stages and representing Zimbabwe and Africa globally. I believe I’m starting a movement, and something new and different is coming,” she confidently stated.

Following Signature, fans can expect a series of collaborations as Sandy expands her network and explores new musical territories. I want to work with more creatives and learn how the industry operates, so there will definitely be more music and exciting partnerships ahead,” she promised.

With her debut EP, Signature, Sandy is poised to cement her place in the reggae world. As her journey unfolds, one thing is certain—this is just the beginning of an exciting career.

Apart from music, Sandy also finds her creative energy as a commercial model.
