The 73rd edition of the Miss Universe competition has arrived, bringing a dazzling display of culture, unity, and empowerment to Mexico for the first time since 2007. Hosted in one of the world’s most cherished travel destinations, Mexico, the event features 125 contestants from around the globe competing in categories like evening gown, swimwear, and personal interviews.

These events aim to select one exceptional woman who will bear the prestigious Miss Universe title and act as a global ambassador for humanitarian causes. Scheduled from October 29 to November 17, this year’s competition is filled with excitement, diversity, and new beginnings.

The activities began with arrivals from October 29 to 31, leading up to notable events like the Gala de las Catrinas on November 1, where contestants will celebrate Mexican culture and heritage. November 3 to 7 will see an exciting excursion tour of Mexico’s scenic destinations.

The crown unveiling cocktail party is scheduled for November 12, preluding the key events of the National Costume Show on November 14, the Farewell Tea on November 15 with reigning Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios, and finally, the long-awaited final on November 16.

Mexico, known for its rich blend of culture, history, and spectacular landscapes, offers the perfect setting for this global celebration. Africa is ready to add to that glare.

This year’s competition boasts an impressive representation from Africa, with 19 contestants from countries across the continent, including Vanessa Chidimma (Nigeria), Fatou Bintou Gueye (Senegal), Irene Mukii (Kenya), Ilda Amani Dorcas (Democratic Republic of Congo), Noura Njikam (Cameroon), Prisca Anyolo (Namibia), Mia le Roux (South Africa) who sadly withdraw from the competition by the time of this publication, Tania René (Mauritius), Nelma Ferreira (Angola), Thanolo Keutlwile (Botswana), Marie-Emmanuelle (Côte d’Ivoire), Logina Salah (Egypt), Diana Angono (Equatorial Guinea), Snit Tewoldemedhin (Eritrea), Saran Bah (Guinea), Khadija Omar (Somalia), Judith Peter Ngusa (Tanzania), Brandina Lubuli (Zambia), Sakhile Dube (Zimbabwe).

A standout among the African contestants is Sakhile Dube from Zimbabwe, a fan favorite and former Miss Earth Zimbabwe 2022 and Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2020-2021. Dube’s platform focuses on educational advocacy and environmental conservation, highlighting her dedication to fostering change through empowerment.

Her national costume, “Soaring Eagle,” pays homage to Zimbabwe’s heritage. The intricate design symbolizes Zimbabwe’s resilience and aspirations through its likeness to the majestic eagle. The costume’s rainbow-colored wings echo the vibrant hues of Zimbabwe’s natural landscapes, such as Victoria Falls, while the rock pattern is inspired by the historic Great Dzimbadzemabwe ruins. Another African contestant making waves is Vanessa Chidimma from Nigeria. Despite some controversies preceding her entry, Chidimma has captivated audiences and is expected to make an impression. With a dedication to advocacy and resilience, she exemplifies the values that Miss Universe upholds.
