She’s no stranger to the spotlight. From gracing national pageants to appearing in top fashion spreads, Pauline Marere has steadily carved her name into Zimbabwe’s modeling scene. Now, the reigning Miss Supranational Zimbabwe 2025 is preparing for her biggest international stage yet: representing the nation at the prestigious Miss Supranational pageant in Poland this June.
Having recently claimed her crown, Pauline is now focused on more than just the glitz of competition. She carries with her a purpose—to represent Zimbabwe’s identity with pride and to uplift others through her advocacy work.
In this exclusive conversation with My Afrika Magazine, our reporter Tapiwanashe Rubaya (TR) sat down with Pauline Marere (PM) to talk about her journey to the crown, her cultural mission abroad, and the preparation behind one of the world’s most competitive pageants.
TR: What does it mean to you to represent Zimbabwe at Miss Supranational 2025 in Poland?
PM: Representing Zimbabwe at Miss Supranational 2025 in Poland is an absolute honor and a dream come true. It is a platform for me to showcase our country’s rich culture, resilience, and beauty. I am proud to be an ambassador for Zimbabwe and cannot wait to share the Zimbabwean story with the world.
TR: How do you plan to showcase Zimbabwean culture, traditions, and values during the competition?
PM: I plan to incorporate traditional Zimbabwean elements into my wardrobe, accessories, and performances. I will also share our country’s dynamic music, dance, and art with the audience and my fellow contestants. Through all media opportunities, I will highlight Zimbabwe’s warm hospitality, respect for elders, and community-oriented values.
TR: What are your expectations from the Miss Supranational 2025 pageant, and how do you plan to make a meaningful impact?
PM: I expect the Miss Supranational 2025 pageant to be a life-changing experience that will allow me to grow as a person, learn from other cultures, and make lasting connections. I plan to make a meaningful impact by being a positive role model and working with underprivileged children through the Gratitude Cleft Movement, an organization I founded to help children with clefts. I believe the combination of the title and my advocacy can help shine a brighter light on this issue and assist more children in achieving a brighter smile.
TR: How will you prepare for the competition’s various challenges, such as the evening gown, swimsuit and talent rounds?
PM: To prepare for the competition, I will focus on physical training, including fitness and rehearsals. I will also work on my public speaking skills, attend grooming and etiquette workshops, and practice my talent presentation. Additionally, I will research and understand the competition’s rules, format, and judging criteria. I have since started engaging local and international designers for my gowns as well.
TR: As a representative of Zimbabwe, what message do you want to convey to the international community about your country?
PM: I want to convey that Zimbabwe is a country with a rich history, diverse culture, and resilient people. We are a nation that is passionate about community development, environmental conservation, and women’s empowerment. I want to show the world that Zimbabwe is a beautiful country with so much to offer.
TR: How do you stay confident and focused under pressure, especially during the competition?
PM: I stay confident and focused by reminding myself of my strengths, preparation, and the support of my loved ones. I also prioritize self-care, including reading, exercise, and positive affirmations. During the competition, I will trust my preparation, focus on the present moment, and have faith in my abilities.
TR: What are your thoughts on the importance of women empowerment, and how do you plan to use your platform to advocate for women’s rights?
PM: I believe women empowerment is crucial for creating a more equitable society. As a titleholder, I plan to use my platform to raise awareness about women’s rights, support organizations that empower women, and inspire young girls to pursue their dreams. I will also advocate for policies and initiatives that promote women’s education, economic empowerment, and health.
TR: Poland has a rich history and culture. What are you most looking forward to experiencing during your time there?
PM: I am excited to experience Poland’s lively culture, rich history, and beautiful architecture. I am looking forward to trying traditional Polish cuisine, attending cultural festivals, and visiting historic landmarks like the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. I am also eager to learn about Poland’s resilience and determination during times of adversity.
TR: How do you plan to engage with the other contestants from around the world, and what do you hope to learn from them?
PM: I plan to engage with the other contestants by being open-minded, respectful, and friendly. I will participate in group activities, attend cultural exchange events, and have one-on-one conversations with the other contestants. I hope to learn about their cultures, traditions, and values, as well as their personal stories and experiences. In the end, I hope to leave the competition with many new friendships.
TR: What sets you apart from other contestants, and what unique qualities will you bring to the competition?
PM: What sets me apart is my passion for community development, my experience working with vulnerable populations, and my commitment to women’s empowerment. I bring a unique perspective as a Zimbabwean woman, and I am excited to share my culture, values, and story with the world.
TR: How will you balance the demands of the competition with the opportunity to learn about and engage with different cultures from around the world?
PM: I will prioritize my responsibilities as a contestant while also making time for cultural immersion and exchange. I will attend cultural events, participate in group activities, and engage with the other contestants during downtime. I will also take notes, ask questions, and seek feedback to ensure I am learning as much as I can.
TR: What are your plans and aspirations after the competition, and how do you see this experience shaping your future endeavors?
PM: After the competition, I plan to continue my advocacy and provide hope to those whom society would typically overlook.
