History was made in Santiago as Morocco defeated Argentina 2–0 to capture their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup™ title, in a result that sent shockwaves through global football.

Led by coach Mohamed Ouahbi, the Atlas Cubs became only the second African team to win the tournament, following Ghana’s triumph in 2009, after a superb performance crowned by a dazzling display from Yassir Zabiri.

According to FIFA, the final at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos saw Morocco defy all odds against an Argentina side that had won a record six titles and entered the match as heavy favourites.

Zabiri opened the scoring in the first half with a brilliant curling free-kick after being brought down by Argentina goalkeeper Santino Barbi. Minutes later, he doubled Morocco’s advantage, volleying home a cross from Othmane Maamma following a swift counterattack initiated by Ismael Baouf.

Argentina pressed hard to find a way back, with Mateo Silvetti and Ian Subiabre both coming close, but Morocco’s defensive trio of Baouf, Fouad Zahouani, and Co held firm. Goalkeeper Ibrahim Gomis remained largely untroubled as Morocco absorbed relentless pressure.

At the final whistle, jubilation erupted among the Moroccan players and fans, a celebration 48 years in the making since the Atlas Cubs first appeared in the inaugural U-20 World Cup.

The victory marks a historic milestone for African football, reaffirming the continent’s growing presence on the global stage.
