NAIROBI — Kenya’s dominance on the global athletics stage was reaffirmed at the 2025 Boston Marathon as John Korir, Sharon Lokedi, Cyprian Kotut, and Hellen Obiri delivered outstanding performances that earned national and international admiration.

President William Samoei Ruto led the nation in congratulating the athletes for their historic achievements in one of the world’s most prestigious marathons.

“Well done John Korir for your remarkable victory at the 2025 Boston Marathon,” said President Ruto in a statement. “Your triumph — the second-fastest winning time in the race’s 129-year history — is a historic milestone in world athletics. Your performance demonstrated the resilience, determination, and spirit that define champions.”

Korir’s record-setting pace captured the imagination of athletics fans around the globe, placing him firmly among the sport’s elite. Meanwhile, fellow Kenyan Cyprian Kotut secured third place, adding another podium finish for the East African powerhouse.

President Ruto also celebrated Sharon Lokedi’s impressive victory in the women’s race, praising her for setting a new course record and showcasing Kenyan endurance and talent on the world stage. “This is not only a personal triumph but a moment of pride for the entire athletics community and our nation,” he said.

In a stunning display of depth in talent, Hellen Obiri, another decorated Kenyan runner, finished second in the women’s race, reinforcing the country’s legacy as a global athletics powerhouse.
