November is Men’s Health and Mental Health Month. A time to talk about men’s health, encourage wellness, and break down mental health stigmas.
Looking at Steve Biko’s life is truly inspiring. By the time of his death at 30, he was a key figure in South Africa’s fight against apartheid. Reading, I write what I like you can see how intelligent and committed he was to bring about change. His achievements make one wonder if he had 9 lives.
This makes me wonder, what’s happening to young men today? Many seem stuck, focusing on casual relationships, listening to podcasts and entertainment instead of bigger goals.
Compare this to Biko’s time, and it’s clear something’s missing.
Even some local leaders achieved great things by their 30s and 40s. For example, Vice President Constantine Chiwenga was already Zimbabwe’s army commander by 30. Even in the business world, Mr Nigel Chanakira founded Kingdom bank in 1994 when he was 26.
So, what’s lacking today? Is it a lack of purpose or our leaders are not providing opportunities for growth? Do we need a shared challenge like a war to focus efforts on meaningful goals?
