Soweto Fashion Week (SFW) is expected to kick off from the 3rd to the 6th of May 2023. The annual fashion event draws designers from across the African continent, who get the opportunity to exhibit their products at one of Africa’s oldest townships, that is in Soweto.
The event was co-founded by Stephen Manzini and has been headlined by fashion brands including Ngugi Vere, Urban Zulu, Zamaswazi, Tapfumanei Coco, etc.
Speaking with a South African news publication which is Joburg Newsroom: Stephen Manzini stated that the main agenda of the show is to showcase South African talent in Soweto and to allow designers to connect with people.
“Our passion is still consistent in showcasing top talent in the fashion industry. South Africa is alive with creativity, with many designers longing to grow the market, and that is what we are all about,” said Stephen Manzini.
The event is expected to be attended by high-profile guests from the entertainment industry and those in the political sector.
Previous events have been attended by ETV channel actors from different daily soaps such as Rhythm City and Scandal with some of the actors having the opportunity of walking across the ramp as models.
Since Soweto Fashion Week was established in 2021, many designers have had the opportunity to find their way within the Soweto community.
Johannesburg Tourism’s Laura Veraeueil also informed Joburg media that SFW is a signature that serve position of creating tourism as a fashion hub.
SFW is scheduled to be hosted at Soweto Theater.
