Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline and a beacon of the continent’s aviation industry, has resumed passenger flights to Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, marking a significant milestone in its operations. The service, which commenced on 30 November, will operate three times weekly, underscoring the carrier’s commitment to bolstering connectivity across Africa.

The inaugural flight was marked by a celebratory event attended by dignitaries from both Ethiopia and Liberia, as well as senior executives of Ethiopian Airlines. The airline described the development as a pivotal step in enhancing economic, cultural, and trade ties between the two nations.

Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, Mesfin Tasew, emphasised the strategic importance of this move, noting that the new route is aligned with the airline’s broader mission of promoting intra-African connectivity. “The resumption of services to Monrovia brings significant benefits, expanding travel options while fostering socioeconomic development,” Tasew remarked in an official statement.

The airline further stated that the route aims to facilitate trade and tourism, providing seamless access to Liberia’s diverse cultural and natural attractions. Ethiopian Airlines has long championed Africa’s integration through aviation, and its latest move reaffirms this ethos.

The reintroduction of flights to Monrovia comes at a time when both nations are looking to deepen their economic cooperation. For Ethiopia, a key player in regional aviation, the route strengthens its network of over 130 destinations globally, with a particular focus on intra-African trade.
