Dr. India Jackson makes history as the first black woman to earn a PhD in Physics from Georgia State University

In a monumental achievement, Dr. India Jackson has become the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Physics from Georgia State University. Dr. Jackson announced her historic accomplishment on the social media platform X, sharing the details of her impressive academic journey.

“It is my honor to announce that I have made history as the first black woman to receive a PhD in Physics from Georgia State University. During this journey I attained: BS MATH, MS MATH, MS PHYSICS, MS Computer Science, PhD Astrophysics,” she wrote.

Dr. Jackson’s academic achievements are as diverse as they are impressive. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Master’s degrees in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, and now a PhD in Astrophysics.
