Lusaka, Zambia — The Dangote Group has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Zambia’s industrial and energy development following a high-level meeting between its President and Chief Executive, Aliko Dangote, and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema in Lusaka.
The courtesy visit underscored the Group’s strategic partnership with the Zambian government and its role in supporting the country’s economic transformation under the 8th National Development Plan (2022–2026).
Since establishing Dangote Cement Zambia Limited (DCZL), the Group has invested more than USD 500 million in a 1.5 million tonnes per annum integrated cement plant in Ndola, complete with a 30 MW captive power plant and over 400 distribution trucks. This investment has not only transformed Zambia from a net importer to a regional cement exporter within SADC but also positioned DCZL as one of the country’s leading industrial employers.
“We seek to work with the Zambian Government to promote local processing of raw materials before export – When value addition happens within the country, jobs and wealth remain in Zambia.” Dangote said.
In line with global sustainability trends, DCZL has replaced over 30% of its fossil fuel use with alternative energy sources, including used tyres, municipal waste, and agricultural by-products. Certified by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) for safe waste management, the company has won multiple awards for environmental excellence. Its power plant also contributes 8 MW to the national grid, supporting Zambia’s energy needs.
During the meeting, President Hichilema praised the Dangote Group’s continued investment and economic contribution, noting that Zambia’s growing electricity demand requires innovative private-sector partnerships.
“The demand for electricity in Zambia has significantly increased, and the current power deficit is constraining economic growth,” President Hichilema said. “The situation has been worsened by the drought the country experienced last season.”
By reinforcing its investments in manufacturing, energy, and agriculture, the Dangote Group continues to position itself as a key partner in Zambia’s industrial transformation and regional sustainability agenda.
