Gaborone – Chief Justice Gaolapelwe Gee Ketlogetswe has set an ambitious vision for Botswana’s judiciary, pledging transformative reforms aimed at restoring public trust, judicial efficiency, and transparency. Speaking at the 2025 Legal Year Opening, Justice Ketlogetswe declared the beginning of “a world-class judiciary,” outlining key measures to modernize the system and address longstanding inefficiencies.
Among the top priorities highlighted were fixing the Computerised Records Management System (CRMS), tackling case backlogs, and addressing staff shortages in key judicial offices. The Chief Justice emphasized that judicial independence is fundamental to democracy, stability, and economic growth, and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Botswana’s courts remain fair, efficient, and accountable.

President Duma Gideon Boko, who attended the event alongside First Lady Kaone Boko, expressed confidence in the judiciary’s direction. “Chief Justice Ketlogetswe’s inspiring message instills confidence that this institution will continue to guide our nation toward greater fairness and equity,” he stated. As Botswana embarks on this new chapter, Ketlogetswe’s reforms are expected to strengthen the rule of law and enhance the judiciary’s role as a pillar of justice and governance.
