Zimbabwe’s Cheetahs beat hosts Uganda 26-19 in Kampala on Sunday to win the Africa Men’s Sevens Series title and qualify for the 2027 World Rugby SVNS 3 circuit.

The victory at Kyadondo Rugby Club capped a successful tournament for Zimbabwe, who were playing under new head coach Fortunate Chipendu.
The Cheetahs went into the final against Uganda after a strong start to the competition.

Ryan Musumhi was one of the players who stood out during the opening day, becoming the only player to win two Player of the Match awards.
He was recognised after Zimbabwe’s matches against Morocco and Ghana as the Cheetahs finished the first day at the top of Pool A.

Zimbabwe started the tournament with a 19-12 win over Morocco before beating Ghana 40-17.
The match against Morocco was closely fought, with Zimbabwe having to deal with a stronger second-half showing from their opponents before holding on for the win.
Against Ghana, the Cheetahs were more comfortable and built a good lead in the first half.

Musumhi, Tavonga Ablant, Trevor Gurwe and Dion Khumalo all scored tries, while Ghana replied through Abdul Jalilu Yussuf and Nhyira Owusu-Ansah after the break.
Tatenda Kamubvumbi then scored late as Zimbabwe completed the 40-17 victory.

The Cheetahs went on to beat Uganda in the final, bringing home the continental title and securing their place in the 2027 SVNS 3 competition.
The result also means Zimbabwe now hold both senior men’s continental rugby titles after the 15-a-side national team won the Africa Cup earlier this year.

Zimbabwe Women cricket also had a memorable result on Sunday after beating West Indies by four wickets in the second ODI at Harare Sports Club.
It was Zimbabwe’s first-ever international win over West Indies and gave new head coach Mark Coles his first victory in charge.

The result also levelled the series at 1-1.
West Indies were bowled out for 139 in 39.3 overs, with Nyasha Gwanzura leading the Zimbabwe attack.
Gwanzura took four wickets for 33 runs from her 10 overs, while Michelle Mavunga picked up three wickets for 36 runs and Francisca Chipare took two for 16.

Zimbabwe reached 140-6 in 40.5 overs to win the match.
Modester Mupachikwa top-scored with 38 from 57 balls. She had scored 86 in the opening match of the series on Thursday.

The win was also Zimbabwe’s first in the ICC Women’s Championship after defeats against New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa.

In England, Zimbabwe international Matt McNab marked his Coventry Rugby debut with a try as the club beat his former side Cornish Pirates 73-40.
McNab started on the right wing and finished off a well-worked move after collecting Tommy Mathews’ cross-field kick before diving into the corner.
Coventry scored 11 tries in the match, with Jordan Poole and Jack Reeves scoring two each.

Another Zimbabwe international, Bruce Houston, also featured for Coventry at fly-half.
It was a busy weekend for Zimbabwean sport, with the Cheetahs bringing home a continental rugby title, the Lady Chevrons making history against West Indies and McNab getting his Coventry career off to a scoring start.
