Agora Club Zimbabwe and Rafiki Girls Centre are currently preparing for the Red Carpet Harareton Ball event, scheduled for September 7, 2024, at Cresta Lodge in Harare. Known as ‘The President’s Charity Ball,’ the event is organized by Agora Club Zimbabwe, a charity organization dedicated to supporting young girls.

My Afrika Magazine reporter Charmaine Brown (CB) spoke with Agora Club Zimbabwe President Chido Musasiwa-Gutu (CM), who shared insights about the upcoming event.

CB: Can you provide an overview of Agora Club Zimbabwe, the purpose of the President’s Charity Ball, and the beneficiaries of the funds raised during this event?

CM: Agora Club Zimbabwe is a service club affiliated with Agora Club International and part of the Round Table family. Our 2024 project, the Rafiki Girls Centre, offers essential vocational training to orphaned and disadvantaged girls in fields like hotel and catering, beauty therapy, and tailoring.

Agora Club Zimbabwe’s motto, “Building for Sustainable Growth,” resonates deeply as we empower these young girls to become independent. We are proud to support their efforts by raising funds for essential equipment, including:

a) 2 industrial sewing machines
b) 2 overlockers
c) 1 catering fridge
d) 1 gas stove
e) Transportation for the girls, among other needs.

Join us in backing this remarkable cause and helping shape a brighter future for these deserving girls!

CB: Are there any guest speakers or collaborations established for this event?

CM: I will deliver a speech and introduce the Board. We will also have Mrs. Mahachi from Rafiki Girls Centre, who will speak about the organization.

CB: What message do you hope to convey through this charity ball?

CM: The message is that we can build friendships and do something charitable while having fun. There are too few occasions where we can dress up, enjoy ourselves, and contribute to a good cause.

CB: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for future events like this one?

CM: We have several events planned for the year, including a car wash, a karaoke night, and a picnic under the stars. Our term began in May and will continue until next May when we hold our AGM and elect a new board.

CB: Is there anything else you’d like our audience to know about Agora Club Zimbabwe?

CM: Agora Club Zimbabwe was founded in 2014 and officially chartered in 2017. Our club unites like-minded women aged 42 and above who share a passion for friendship, community service, and personal growth. Our mission is to build, promote, and coordinate friendship.
