EXCLUSIVE: In the heart of Zimbabwe’s evolving music scene, one artist stands out with his gritty determination, vibrant storytelling, and an unshakable commitment to inspiring the youth—Bagga, aka Bagga Weragga. From his humble beginnings in the ghettos of Harare to becoming an award-winning artist, Bagga’s journey is a testament to resilience, faith, and raw talent.

With a sound rooted in Afro Pop and Hip Hop, he has crafted a brand of music that speaks to the struggles, hopes, and triumphs of the everyday Zimbabwean. My music is one of motivation, faith, and hope to the people, no matter if you are from the lower working class to the higher working class, he says.

In 2025, Bagga reached a major milestone when he won the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) for Best Directed Music Video. The award recognized his innovative approach to visual storytelling, showcasing not just his musical artistry but his ability to push the boundaries of music video production in Zimbabwe.

The award-winning video, crafted by a talented team, captured the essence of his music through vibrant imagery and compelling narratives. It was a defining moment for Bagga, proving that his work was not only resonating with fans but also setting new industry standards.

Bagga isn’t just a musician—he’s a movement. As the “Gevha President” (Ghetto President), he stands as a fighter for a better future, using his influence to uplift young people from the hardships of ghetto life.

“I’ve become a hero for the youth, showing them that if you are disciplined and have perseverance, you can do anything in life—no matter where you come from. Especially if you’re from the ghetto where I was raised,” he proudly states.

Beyond music, Bagga is actively involved in community initiatives, advocating for youth empowerment and using his story to inspire a generation to dream bigger and fight for their future.

With substance abuse plaguing many young Zimbabweans, Bagga’s music serves as a beacon of hope and healing. His message is clear—there are better ways to deal with life’s struggles than drugs.

“My music is very spiritual; it heals the troubled soul from the core. That’s how I get into their minds—to inspire them to live for a better tomorrow. I give them hope without needing to be intoxicated to suppress feelings. Instead, I heal them with harmonic vibes and melodic melodies.”

His ability to connect emotionally with his audience makes him more than just a performer—he is a guiding light for many who feel lost.

Bagga’s musical path began in his teenage years when he pursued formal training in music, songwriting, and production. His natural talent quickly caught the attention of producers, leading to his first recording opportunity.

His breakthrough came with his debut album, a fusion of Afrobeats, Dancehall, and traditional Zimbabwean rhythms. The album’s success catapulted him into the national and international spotlight, cementing his reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

As someone who has experienced the highs and lows of the music business, Bagga has valuable advice for upcoming artists:

“Find time to look for an educated music industry support team—you’ll save a lot of time working with people who understand investment. Money is attracted, not pursued. Grind with your team until you make it, because music is a family game, not an individual one. No one knows everything, and connections are very important for speedy growth.”

Bagga’s journey is proof that with discipline, perseverance, and the right team, success is inevitable.

With his recent NAMA win, a growing international presence, and an unwavering commitment to using music for change, Bagga is shaping up to be one of Zimbabwe’s most influential artists. His music not only entertains but also uplifts, educates, and inspires.
