Africa’s biggest fashion awards postponed

The Abranzy Style Fashion Awards is Africa’s premier fashion awards platform, dedicated to celebrating and honoring the works of African fashion industry champions. Held annually in Kampala, Uganda, the awards were founded by Brian Ahumuza to recognize African fashion creativity, excellence, and innovation.

Through this platform, outstanding African fashion designers, editors, models, and stylists are acknowledged and honored for their contributions to the African fashion industry. The event is a platform for fashion professionals to network, exchange ideas, and create a hub for up-and-coming fashion talents.

This year, fans of the event had already made arrangements with personal designers and stylists in preparation for the 10th edition, wanting to appear on the red carpet with glitz and glamour. However, the ASFAS organisers released a press statement stating that this year’s event had been cancelled, resulting in disappointment for many.

“The Abranzy Style and Fashion Awards a prestigious event in the African Fashion community, has taken the unprecedented decision not to hold its 2023 event,” said the organisers.

Organisers of the event informed that the ceremony’s dates have been moved till next year, promising that the event will be unique and extraordinary. This is the second time this has happened. The first was in 2020 during Covid.

The African Society of Fashion and Arts (ASFAS) has announced a bold initiative to showcase African fashion brilliance in an unprecedented exhibition in 2024. The organization is committed to celebrating change-makers, recognizing creative excellence, and nurturing the next generation of African fashion talent.

ASFAS has honored fashion players from all regions of Africa (West, North, South, East, and Central), including renowned designers such as Joram Muziva, Jidenna, Andile Mthembu, Sheria Ngowi, and David Tlale. Individual fashion houses are given the opportunity to showcase their products, mentorship programs, and networking initiatives during the awards ceremony.
