With only a few months until the coronation of the new Mister Supranational King in Poland on July 4th, African nations are hopeful that this year, the main title will be won by an African contestant. The continent is sending its most powerful and competitive delegates to the event.
Three countries have already named their delegates: South Africa, Ivory Coast, and Sierra Leone. Other nations, traditionally known for participating in Mister Supranational, have yet to confirm their involvement this year.
Sierra Leone is represented by Uthman Bangura, currently based in Turkey. Known for his photogenic poses, Bangura has garnered a significant following on social media, particularly from European brands he has worked with as a commercial model. His fans expect him to carry the torch of his predecessor, Abu Bakarr Tawaralie, who was crowned Mister Supranational Africa.
Ivory Coast’s representative, Firmin Junior Yapi, is expected to captivate many during the competition with his charm, charisma, and remarkable presence. His social media following has grown due to his trending, photogenic pictures.
South Africa’s delegate, Fezile Mkhize, also known as Dr. Mkhize or Fezi, is not new to the modeling world. He previously participated in the 2019 Mister World competition, where he was awarded 1st runner-up. South Africans hope Mkhize will outshine other contestants on July 4th and make history as the first-ever African to win the main title. He succeeds Tylo Ribeiro, the reigning Mister Supranational Africa.
The three models will compete for the continental title, Mister Supranational Africa. South Africa has previously won this title twice, in 2019 and 2023. If Dr. Mkhize wins, South Africa will be the first African country to win back-to-back titles, with Tylo Ribeiro being the current reigning King.
Mohamed Medhat from Egypt became the first African male model to win the title in 2016. Other countries that have claimed the title include Togo, Ethiopia, Namibia, and Sierra Leone.
Mister Supranational aims to discover new talent for the modeling and television industries and to produce instant celebrities. The reigning Mister Supranational is Luis Daniel Galvez from Cuba. Since the pageant’s inception eight years ago, no African model has won the main title of Mister Supranational.
