Former Zanu founding nationalist, Ndabaningi Sithole was proclaimed national hero by President Mnangagwa this weekend.
Ndabaningi Sithole founded the Zimbabwe African National Union, a militant organisation that opposed the government of Rhodesia, in July 1963.
The late Ndabanengi Sithole passed away in December 2000 at the United States of America.
President Mnangagwa had made the announcement last year that a conferred national Hero status will be given to the late lawmaker from Chipinge District.
Several guests of honour were in attendance including, Ministers. Addressing the public during the ceremonial event, Minister Kazembe Kazembe described the late Ndabaningi Sithole as a gallant son of the nation and the founding father of the ruling party.
“We are here to officially confer National Hero status to one of the ZANU PF founding fathers, Cde Ndabaningi Sithole. He was a liberation war stalwart, a gallant son of the soil,” said Minister Kazembe.
Daughter of the late, Ndabaningi Sithole thanked the president for recognising her father’s role during the liberation struggle.
“We feel humbled by the gesture of the second republic which has departed from the historical norm to correct historical anomaly,” said Sifiso Sithole
