I had the wonderful opportunity to have a chat with this amazing person and I will share with you the awesome conversations that followed.
SS: Tendai welcome to My Afrika Magazine. Who is this person and brand called Tendai Marowa?
TM: Thank you Sympathy for hosting me. I am a creative person who is passionate about fashion, culture and women’s empowerment. The brand “Tendai Marowa” represents that same passion in action: a platform for mentoring emerging creatives, celebrating African luxury and using media to inspire and educate. While I don’t run a fashion label, my blog, radio show and public speaking work are extensions of my commitment to help others thrive in the creative industries.
SS: That’s so awesome. I know you made a mark in modeling. How did you get into this industry?
TM: My journey began with pageantry and modelling in Australia and then USA where I won two international title-holders as the first Black African delegate to win Miss Cosmos International 2012 and was appointed Ms Cosmos International 2014. Through that exposure, I discovered that my true calling was not only in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes—supporting and uplifting other creatives, telling African stories, and showcasing our unique luxury to the world.
SS: You’ve had a lot of achievements, tell us some of them.
TM: Some of my proudest milestones include winning blogging awards for my work in fashion and culture, hosting the “Lifestyle with Tendai Marowa” show on Woman Radio SA, and mentoring young designers and entrepreneurs. I’ve also been recognised for my advocacy of African luxury and for bridging creative communities between Zimbabwe and South Africa.
SS: I love the idea of bridging SA/Zim communities. You are also a broadcaster, and a little brag is that I had the opportunity of being on your show. Tell us more about this show.
TM: Hosting ‘Lifestyle With Tendai Marowa’ is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. The show gives me a platform to talk about fashion, art, and beauty, and to introduce listeners to both established and emerging voices shaping the African creative scene. It’s about education, empowerment and entertainment all in one space.
SS: Talking of that show, which interesting people have you interviewed before and what stood out for you about them?
TM: I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing celebrities from different parts of the world, artists, social entrepreneurs, beauty innovators and international beauty queens .What always stands out to me is their courage—people who take risks to tell authentic stories and who stay true to their values while building sustainable brands.
SS: Podcasting has become very popular in today’s world. How can one create a career out of it?
TM: Start with a clear niche and a strong message. Consistency builds trust, and partnerships or sponsorships grow from that foundation. Podcasting works best when it’s authentic—when you’re solving a problem or providing insight that listeners really need. I always advise creatives to treat it like a business: build a content plan, understand your audience, and leverage social media to grow your reach.
SS: You also have a leg in the world of marketing and branding.Tell us more.
TM: I learnt early on that visibility and consistency are everything. Whether it’s a personal brand or a creative business, you need a clear identity and a message that resonates. Over time, I’ve combined my background in blogging, pageantry and broadcasting to craft a brand built on empowerment, African luxury and cultural storytelling.
SS: You have made an impact in both Zimbabwe and South Africa. What are the benefits of expanding your audience beyond one country?
TM: It allows you to create cross-cultural conversations, tap into bigger networks and unlock more opportunities for collaboration. For me it has meant connecting Zimbabwean talent with South African platforms and vice versa, helping to showcase our region’s creativity to the world.
SS: You have done a lot and it’s amazing. What are your future aspirations?
TM: Thank you. So I’d love to expand my media platforms to reach an even wider audience, and collaborate with more international partners to elevate African luxury globally and continue with fashion and the beauty pageant industry. I can’t say much yet but I’m working on something for 2026.
SS: Any advice for our awesome readers.
TM: I’d like to encourage emerging creatives not to be afraid of their individuality. Africa’s greatest strength is its diversity. By embracing our heritage, telling our own stories and supporting each other, we can redefine luxury, fashion and creativity on our own terms.
SS: What will your epitaph read?
TM: “She inspired, she empowered, she celebrated African beauty and creativity.”
SS: Tendai, it’s been awesome having you here on My Afrika Magazine.Thank you and all the best for your future aspirations.
TM: Thank you Sympathy. It has been my pleasure.
