Gaborone, Botswana – Judge Gaolapelwe Gee Ketlogetswe has officially taken office as the Chief Justice of Botswana, succeeding Justice Terrence Rannowane, who stepped down due to medical reasons. The swearing-in ceremony, held on January 18, 2025, marks a new chapter for the judiciary under Ketlogetswe’s leadership.

President Duma Gideon Boko formally appointed Judge Ketlogetswe, highlighting his extensive legal career spanning nearly three decades. Starting in the Magistracy as both a Magistrate and Principal Magistrate, Ketlogetswe later entered private practice before joining the High Court, where he served with distinction as a judge. His legal expertise and administrative experience have earned him a reputation for integrity and dedication to the rule of law.

During the announcement, the President expressed confidence in Ketlogetswe’s ability to enhance the independence and effectiveness of Botswana’s judiciary, emphasizing his commitment to fairness, justice, and the rule of law.
