SECURICO founder and managing director Dr. Divine Simbi Ndhlukula, celebrated the commissioning of a solar project and internet connectivity for the Mbuya Mary Simbi Library and Computer Lab, in Makudo in Gutu, Zimbabwe.
With the new solar-powered internet connectivity, students in the area can now access the digital world for the first time, enabling learning opportunities previously out of reach. The initiative was funded by proceeds from SECURICO’s Silver Jubilee Golf Day, marking another significant contribution from the company to Zimbabwe’s education sector.
In addition to inaugurating the project, SECURICO awarded laptops and tablets to the top three students in the region. The event also highlighted sustainability through a partnership with the Chigubu Lantern Project, training 160 students to create solar lights from waste materials. This initiative not only addresses evening study needs but also promotes circular economy principles.
Since the library’s establishment in 2021, the pass rates in local schools have significantly improved. This new development is expected to further enhance educational outcomes and broaden horizons for students.
“These are exciting times for the Makudo community,” said Ndhlukula. “We are unlocking new worlds for these students through education and technology. This is just the beginning, and there’s much more to come.”
