Seasons come and go but there is something about that crossover from winter to summer which brings with it a lot of beautiful, awe inspiring views. It gets warmer and most of all the trees starts blooming and producing very lovely flowers.
Usually, the Jacaranda season starts in September and ends in October. These trees always cause a stir, a lot of undivided attention especially in the streets of big cities like Harare and Bulawayo. Pfumvudza as we call it in Shona is a very magical season with immersive experiences. If I close my eyes I can actually see the brilliance of the color purple through and through decorating one too many a street.
As Zimbabweans we are proud to say we have a formidable niche with the Jacaranda flower market. Tourists in Asia that is Japan, China and South Korea always trickle down to our country so as to pay homage to the Jacaranda trees. For your own information the Jacaranda Musical Festival in particular celebrates the God given trees and their beauty. To hammer on that fact, the season blends with the World Tourism Month celebrations and we call it upping the ante because we will be in the throes of commemoration.
In the thick of things so this has indeed amplified travel and tourism at most. Moreso, becoming a point of sell for the Zimbho domestic tourism campaigns because everyone wants to see this marvel, this wonder which comes once in a year like Christmas. Unabashedly, tourists should take the streets by storm because it’s a season that should be cherished and savored. Posetively, the purple movement is surely reducing the cutting down of trees. As fortune has it, we should appreciate it all whether the leaves are still blooming in the tree or when they fall down and are scattered on the ground. Either way their effect on the onlookers is one and the same thing.
The fernlike petals belong to the Bignonia Family and they promote tourism because the visitors in question are bound to stay in our hotels and partake in other activities. Jacaranda trees have since compelled travellers to come to Harare, just for a wedding photoshoot under their lovely shade. Suffice it to say, thats mother nature for us for most of the trees are not planted but they grow naturally, free of charge. Lets paint the summer purple by visiting all the sites that are graced by the beautiful Jacaranda Trees. Don’t forget to take some pictures as souvenirs during such an ospicuous excursion. All in all the fragrant flowers symbolises resilience, prosperity with good fortune to boot.
