KAMPALA, Uganda — Zimbabwe’s men’s rugby team has made history, qualifying for the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup in Australia after edging Namibia 30-28 in a thrilling Rugby Africa Cup final on July 19th.
This marks Zimbabwe’s first World Cup qualification since 1991 and their third overall. The Sables broke Namibia’s seven-tournament streak, with standout performances from Kudzai Mashawi, Brandon Mudzekenyedzi, and veteran flyhalf Ian Prior, who was named Player of the Tournament. Lock Godfrey Muzanargwo earned man-of-the-match honors.
Namibia, still in contention, will face the UAE in a final qualification play-off.
The Rugby Africa Cup featured eight top African teams, with hosts Uganda avoiding relegation after a dominant 37-point win. Côte d’Ivoire was relegated.
