Zimbabwe Cricket has announced a strong 14-player squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025, set for 31 August–6 September in Namibia.
Veteran batter Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano will captain a side blending experience and youth, as Zimbabwe chase a place at the Global Qualifier in Nepal, the final step towards the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Drawn in Group A with Namibia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone, the Lady Chevrons open against the hosts on 31 August, face Sierra Leone the next morning, and wrap up against Nigeria on 3 September. The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals on 4 September, with the finalists earning qualification for Nepal.
Zimbabwe will look to replicate their unbeaten run in the 2023 Africa Qualifier, where they defeated Uganda in the final. Head coach Walter Chawaguta said the team was focused:
“This tournament is our gateway to the Global Qualifier and ultimately the 2026 World Cup. Every game counts and we know what is at stake.”
He praised the squad’s balance of seasoned players, Josephine Nkomo, Modester Mupachikwa, Loreen Tshuma, Nomvelo Sibanda, Christabel Chatonzwa, and rising talents such as Kelis Ndhlovu, Beloved Biza, Kudzai Chigora, Adel Zimunu, and Lindokuhle Mabhero.
Also included are Chiedza Dhururu, Nyasha Gwanzura, and Francisca Chipare.
Chawaguta stressed the need for consistency:
“We cannot afford complacency. One bad day can undo all the hard work. The key will be to stay grounded and play every match with intensity.”
