The Zimbabwe–France Great Zimbabwe project has entered its final phase, with anticipation building ahead of the official inauguration of the iconic heritage site.

In a statement, the French Embassy to Zimbabwe confirmed ongoing coordination meetings with Professor M. Manyanga and Dr P. Mupira of the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ), underscoring the collaborative effort behind the restoration initiative.

The Great Zimbabwe monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, remains one of Africa’s most significant architectural and cultural landmarks. France’s renewed commitment to supporting its preservation reflects the growing importance of international partnerships in safeguarding heritage while strengthening sustainable tourism.

Key partners including Agence Française de Développement (AFD), UNOPS and the UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa have contributed to the project, reinforcing a shared vision to protect and promote Zimbabwe’s cultural treasures.

Beyond conserving the physical structure, the initiative aims to enhance Great Zimbabwe’s appeal as a premier tourism destination, boosting local enterprise and national economic growth.

As the inauguration approaches, the project stands as a powerful symbol of cross-border cooperation — and of Zimbabwe’s enduring cultural legacy on the global stage.
